WEST COAST RAIN
It was a rainy week when Ben Schulein was here in January 2018. Ben and I were staying on the West Coast and decided to take a helicopter trip and try our luck. Our chopper pilot questioned my decision to stay and fish a river that was running at 20 cubic metres and chocolate brown. I knew we would need to fish blind anywhere we went on that day after so much rain.
Luck was with us – Ben had five hookups fly fishing blind that day including an eight and a half pound brown trout, and the stunning ten pound monster featured below.
DRY FLY FISHING
The Bennett brothers returned to fish this season – both now in their late seventies. Peter was a little anxious about his ability to keep up however after the first few days he said he was feeling stronger day by day. On one of their fishing days they managed sixteen hookups with ten trout in the net – all on dry flies.
