SPRING 2016
In early October Geoff McAdam from Melbourne landed this season’s first ten pounder. This 10 1/4 pound beauty was spotted in an unusual location. Geoff hooked this fish in the morning but it was hooked and then lost very quickly. On our way home we stopped to have another look and this monster was feeding again – Geoff caught him this time! Geoff has been coming to fish with me for the past fifteen years and this was his very first ten pounder – very exciting.
At this time, at the beginning of spring our weather was quite good but by mid October the wet weather began. We were in fact living on the edge of a Southern Ocean storm and it ended up being a mostly cold and wet spring which lasted through until mid January. In early December Ralph Gaudio landed another stunning ten pounder.
TWENTY TWO POUND MONSTER
When Ralph returned to fish in February he suggested we travel seven hours south to the Twizel canals to try our luck at landing a monster. On our first afternoon we tried everything with very little success. The next morning was a repeat experience until we radically changed our thinking. We had to leave by midday and around 11:00 am Ralph landed a 22 1/2 pound brown trout. Mission accomplished!
